When using Chalkology Ink on non-fabric surfaces, you make the design permanent by heat setting in the oven. You can use ink on surfaces that you cannot heat set in your oven but the design will not be permanent. It can wash or wear off.
You can heat set ceramics, cookware and many types of glass. Any surface that can tolerate a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Use the ink on coffee mugs, display plates and drink tumblers. You should not heat set powder coated items in an oven you plan to cook food in again. Please read all surface information about the item you plan to ink before putting it in your oven.
Note that ink is designed for décor items, and while you may choose to decorate platters and plates, ink was not formulated to be in direct contact with food.
The key to inking success is to let the ink completely dry before heat setting. I let the project dry 24 hours before heat setting in my oven.
Chalk Couture recommends pre-heating the oven before placing your project inside. I do not do this. I use the following process: Put your completely dry project in a cold oven and shut the door. Set the oven to 350 degrees. Once it has pre-heated, set your timer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes turn the oven off. Let your project completely cool before removing it from the oven.
I have made a lot of mugs using this process that have been cleaned many times both in a sink and in a dishwasher and have had no problems with my designs staying crisp and colours staying bright.
